I came to Dr. Widen for TMJ help after having a horrific experience with an orthodontist’s TMJ treatment. When I came to Dr. Widen my quality of life was very low due to TMJ. Dr. Widen is patient, thorough in his work, and listens to your feedback. He has a 1-1 approach, the appointment never feels rushed, and he will make time for you if something comes up.
I’ve dealt with TMJ for years. After trying medications, other treatments, and consulting other dentists for 2nd opinions, Dr. Widen came out on top as the most measured and scientific in his approach.
After a month of visiting Dr. Widen I finally feel confident I am on the right track and my quality of life has immensely improved; the difference is truly incredible. I only wish I had stepped into this office sooner to get help with my TMJ. If you are suffering from TMJ and are looking for a light at the end of that dark tunnel, call Dr. Widen.

Dr. Widen does beautiful, sensitive, intelligent work. For that, I flew 16 hours to return to Chicago to see if he could save a tooth, and he did. Five other dentists had threatened that they might have to drill into the nerve and ultimately, I would lose my FRONT tooth. That Dr. Widen saved the tooth and gave me back a truly beautiful, natural (not obscenely white or with strange lengths to the teeth) smile, truly lovely, means much more than the superficials. To me, he IS the true holistic, biological dentist in town. He doesn’t claim those labels, but he uses the most non-toxic, bio-identical resins. He also didn’t push me as others have, to use local anesthetics, get redundant x-rays, and he truly, truly works to protect your natural teeth. He would never do more than he has to. Also because of his careful, focused work, I managed TWO HOURS of work without numbing agents, including the filling of some 8 cavities. This would never have been possible with anyone else. I am truly grateful to know and have been served by Dr. Widen. I wish that all so-called “holistic dentists” had his ethos and TRUE respect for people’s body, individual issues, teeth, health, and wallets. I couldn’t recommend him more.

I also would like to mention a few other points. He seems to be one of the last dentists on earth that doesn’t need a lab for everything and makes things with his hands. If you need a retainer, his retainers are BY NONE THE BEST I have ever had, and I have lived in 7 countries and burned through a lot of retainers. As an opera singer with damaged nerves in my face, I am extremely sensitive to any pressure on my teeth. He looks at your situation and tailors everything to your needs and preferences, and does it all with his intelligence, creativity, and care. I also have TMJ and would like to note Dr. Widen is passionate about the relationship between breathing, mouth position, and whole-body health. Truly passionate, not only EXTREMELY sensitive with his hands. He has also managed to help me some with my TMJ where a dozen others had failed completely and made me worse. In his most recent work where he (supported by his medical assistant/office manager, Nichole) saved a tooth more than a few people told me they just might have to remove, he also saved me from a cascade of neurological problems, as my mouth is a hyper-sensitive area from an accident and surgeries. Last note, a lot of dentists have taken to using those toxic air fresheners in their office. I am grateful they know better than to do that to themselves and their clients in his office, so you can breathe fresh air in a clean and bright environment.

Nichole is also a lovely and highly intelligent person who makes everything easier, makes you feel welcome. This office is about dentistry, health, and service, not policy, procedure, and bureaucracy.

I suffered from TMJD and jaw pain for years, being told that the solution was taking medicine or getting botox in my masseter muscle. Nothing worked–until I saw Dr. Widen. I heard about TMJD specialists certified by ICCMO on tiktok, and, struggling with jaw pain and pain with chewing as I was, decided to look in the area. I came upon Dr. Widen’s page and decided to give him a call. I was especially impressed with the amount of time Dr. Widen took to ask me questions and explain his treatment method before I paid him a dime. Then, at the first official appointment, Dr. Widen took the time to explain exactly what was wrong with my jaw, asking diagnostic questions to tailor the treatment to me. He performed scans to determine the degree of muscle contraction in my jaw (showing me each scan and explaining step by step) and then built an orthotic that actually changes the relationship of my upper and lower jaw so that I have NO MORE pain!! I recommend Dr. Widen to my boyfriend, friends, and would truly recommend anyone who suffers with teeth clenching or jaw pain to pursue treatment. Besides being pain free, an added bonus that my face is no longer visibly swollen and lopsided. Seriously changed my life.

Dr. Widen and Nichole provided me with exceptional service that went beyond your “normal” trip to the dentist. From the warm welcome you get when walking in the door, to the modern tools doc uses, to his precise diligence in his work, is where it puts him ‘a cut above the rest’. I was so comfortable and felt I was in such good hands that all my dental anxiety before I got there, just went away once he started working. It would be a disappointment to have to go anywhere else. After a car accident left me with a dislocated jaw joint at the age of 26, Dr. Widen gave me my life back. For several months before I went to him, I was in constant pain, could barely open my mouth, and could not eat solid food. I couldn’t sleep through the night because of the pain. I was exhausted, worried, and avoided social situations because I couldn’t eat and it was difficult and painful to talk.

My father-in-law is a dentist in another state, and was searching for someone in Chicago who could help me out. He called Dr. Widen (who answered even though he was on vacation), and he offered to see me as soon as possible. After that first consultation, I knew I was in good hands. My unusual situation required a couple of years of regular appointments, but the very patient Dr. Widen brought me back to normal, understanding the emotional aspects that accompanied the physical pain throughout the process.

The level of care Dr. Widen provides is unmatched. He is precise, measured, and exact in his work. Dr. Widen uses advanced techniques and cutting-edge equipment to ensure his adjustments are accurate. He also takes the time to explain everything he is doing, using drawings, diagrams, photos, baseball or movie analogies…anything that will help you understand, which I personally appreciate very much. He has a lot of fun doing this, so you can tell that he loves his work and truly cares that his patients feel comfortable. And in my case at least, the level of patience he displays on top of all of this is incredible. I was very worried throughout my recovery and tend to ask a lot of questions, but he hung in there with me even during some moments when I’m sure anyone else would have wanted to throw me out the window. Also, Dr. Widen only books one patient at a time, so you have his undivided attention and never feel rushed. It is hard to find someone who is both so highly skilled/knowledgeable and caring/conversational, and I am very glad I did.

The cost of Dr. Widen’s treatments is not inexpensive, but he is extremely fair and up front regarding his pricing so you’ll know exactly what to expect and why. He will not jack you around, there are no hidden fees, surprise extra costs, or strange things in the bill. Actually, with how long my treatment took, at some point I expected him to charge me more but he never did. And again, by restoring my jaw he also restored my quality of life, so to me that is worth the cost a thousand times over. I continue to see Dr. Widen for my routine cleanings and my husband does now too. It is worth every penny for the thorough exams, one-on-one attention, and peace of mind he provides.

I highly recommend Dr. Widen. He has been a life saver for me. I have been a patient since 2006. In addition to being an excellent general dentist, he has been able to relieve my TMJ and chronic headache, neck and shoulder pain by precisely measuring excessive muscle recruitment, identifying my optimal bite and creating an orthotic that finally allows my jaw to relax and heal. The process was involved and costly but worth every penny for the complete relief of suffering, particularly after trying so many other treatments that did not help – medications, PT, etc…He is a consummate professional and goes above and beyond in his care for his patients. If you are a TMJ sufferer, this is the solution you have been looking for.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Widen for a little over a year now, and I wouldn’t consider another dentist as long as I live in the Chicago area.

I first came to Dr. Widen in a lot of discomfort from TMD. First with a night guard and then with an orthotic, he gradually helped me feel better. My chronic pain was causing me a lot of anxiety at a time when I really needed my jaw to feel comfortable, and Dr. Widen went absolutely above and beyond to fit in appointments with me and help me out.

Although he’s been doing this for a long time, Dr. Widen actively keeps up with the latest in the industry; he’s never going through the motions or set in his ways. Nichole, his assistant, is also a pleasure to interact with and very kind. It’s very clear the practice isn’t focused on extracting profit but rather on helping people. Dr. Widen has helped people in chronic pain to regain their quality of life. Ask him about the people who’ve come to him unable to look up, unable to maintain a healthy posture, unable to swim, and you’ll be able to tell that he truly does what he does in order to help those people.

Finally, Dr. Widen’s practice – yes, going to the dentist – is actually fun. I consider him a friend by now, and enjoy going in to see him. I created a Yelp account specifically to make Dr. Widen my first review, so needless to say, I can’t recommend him more highly.

I have NEVER associated an awesome experience with a dental visit UNTIL this one. If you’re wanting a real review then here it is….don’t waste your time with any one else. Dr Widen and Nichole are without hesitation the best. I will continue to travel from Georgia for my dental care needs.
